The Best Data Packs for Minecraft

Data packs are one of the easiest ways to customize Minecraft. They allow you to add in things like custom structures, commands, and behaviors to Minecraft without external mod loaders like Forge. However, finding high-quality data packs that work as expected can be extremely difficult. For this reason, we created this list of the best data packs for Minecraft.

Minecraft Data Packs List

Vanilla Tweaks

Vanilla Tweaks is a collection of hundreds of data packs. There are Minecraft data packs for everything you could dream of with Vanilla Tweaks, from utility to mobs to general survival. Truthfully, we could create an entire list of data packs from just Vanilla Tweaks. It's also worth mentioning that Vanilla Tweaks data packs are usually kept up-to-date meaning they quickly update to new versions of Minecraft.

All Mob Heads

All Mob Heads does what the name implies – it makes all mobs in Minecraft mobs drop their heads when they are killed. This includes all kinds of cool custom mob heads like heads for bees, cows, and chickens, but also more traditional mob heads you may expect like skeletons and zombies. You can also do some cool things using the heads like summon some special monsters!

Dynamic Lights

Dynamic Lights is one of the coolest quality of life improvements you can get, and its amazing you can now add it with a data pack. You will be able to see light emitted from torches, glowstone, and even enchanted items, will emit light when they are held or worn. This is great for moving around at night or in caves especially if you are running low on torches.

Veinminer

Veinminer has been around for years, and it can now be added as a data pack. This means you can basically get Veinminer's features in vanilla. What does it do? Well, with it, you will be able to mine entire views of ores by simply pressing down a key, and mining the ore. This speeds up mining time a ton!

Upgradable Backpack

Backpack mods are some of the coolest mods you can get in Minecraft, and this data pack adds a backpack to Minecraft without any mod loaders. You can easily craft multiple backpacks, wear them as your chest armor, and use it to extend your inventory and store more items.

Trek Structures

Vanilla Minecraft doesn't have enough structures. Luckily, the Trek data pack aims to change that by adding over 100 custom structures that will randomly appear across your world. These have their own hidden look while still using vanilla blocks and features, meaning that the data pack can safely be removed in the future.

Enchantology

Enchantments are a great way to take your tools and armor to the next level. However, have you ever wanted more enchantments in Minecraft? That's where Enchantology comes in. This data pack adds over 40 enchantments to Minecraft allowing for everything from a Magnetic enchant that draws broken blocks to you to horse armor enchants that improve your horses. The amount of enchants Enchantology adds is crazy.

Geophilic

Geophilic is a data pack that improves Minecraft's existing vanilla biomes. Everything from boulders and fallen trees to bushes, moss, and more are added to these biomes to improve the look and feel of them. It's also worth noting that no non-vanilla blocks are used. That means Geophilic can be removed in the future without issue!

Incendium

Even with recent additions, the nether could still be improved in Minecraft. Incendium does this by adding an addition 8 biomes to the nether for you to discover and explore. There are new structures too including a “Nether Reactor” with its own “mini-boss” to defeat. This is a nice and easy addition to your world that increases nether explorability a lot.

Vanilla Refresh

This is a massive quality of life mod with over 30 different features added to the game. There are too many to list here, but they include the ability to sit down, mob health displays, better armor stands that can now be posed, wands to help with building, a droppable ladder for easy cave exploration, and more!

Better Trees

This data pack takes Minecraft's vanilla trees and improves them by making them bigger, more complex, and overall more appealing. This is a great way to improve the realistic feel in Minecraft, and it even works with other biome generation data packs!

Portfolio

Minecraft needs more paintings. I don't think anyone would argue with that, and the creators behind Portfolio agree. This data pack adds in over 80 paintings to vanilla Minecraft to give you a full range and set of paintings to choose from. This allows you not only to have more customization options for your builds, but even allows you to do things like build art galleries with tons of different paintings!
